If you don’t see your questions below, please feel free to reach out to our firm at (214) 494-8990. We offer free consultations to all potential clients.

Q: What legal matters do you handle?

A: Although the Texas Supreme Court has granted our firm the ability to handle cases across all practice areas, we place our sole focus on criminal law matters. We choose to put all of our time, energy, and efforts toward protecting and defending the criminally accused.

Our attorneys can help you fight any criminal charges that you or a loved one might be facing, including:

Q: Am I allowed to be my own legal representative in court?

A: While nothing is stopping you from doing so, our firm abides by the philosophy that "a person who represents himself in court has a fool for a client." If you decide to proceed with your legal matters without a professional attorney on your side, prepare to follow the same exact legal principles, processes, and rules for admissible evidence that lawyers with years of knowledge and experience are expected to abide by. If you are facing prosecution for a traffic or criminal offense, the extensive training and insight possessed by a prosecuting attorney will automatically provide him or her with an upper edge against you. Representing yourself in court comes with its fair share of risks and potential consequences, from a jail sentence and pricey fines to probation and hefty court expenses. A criminal case loss could also result in your constitutional rights being taken away from you, and a permanent mark on your criminal record. Fortunately, all of this can better be avoided with trusted guidance from an experienced legal professional. Our attorneys at Berlof & Newton, P.C. are always here to help you.

Q: If I provide you with the funds to pay for a traffic ticket on my behalf, what would you do?

A: Every city has a different process for this scenario. With us taking care of your traffic ticket, we do everything in our power to prevent your ticket from showing up on your driving record. Furthermore, we strive to accomplish this goal in the most cost-effective manner possible. We have oftentimes secured outright dismissals for our past clients, meaning that they ended up not having to pay anything to the courts. In the event that the courts refrain from granting an outright dismissal, pursuing a disposition for your case would be our next option. A disposition would also protect your driving record, as well as your insurance premium. However, it would require that you pay a fine to the courts. If you prefer to settle this matter at trial, prepare to pay additional legal costs. Berlof & Newton, P.C. can further advise you on the next steps to take.

Q: Would you have the ability to help me if there happened to be an arrest warrant included with my traffic ticket?

A: Our answer to this question varies depending on the situation. We would only have the means to assist you if you received the warrant based on the fact that you never scheduled a court date, or you failed to appear on a scheduled court date. If you make the decision to retain our representation, we are prepared to post an "attorney bond" that will automatically rescind the warrant and permit you to request another court date. However, if you received the warrant due to the fact that you plead "no contest" or "guilty" (or you were proven guilty during trial), you no longer have the option of fighting your ticket in court. You would also have to pay the penalty issued to you by the courts.

Q: What cities do you serve in the state of Texas?

A: Clients across Dallas County can turn their traffic ticket cases over to our attorneys. Cities include Addison, Allen, Balch Springs, Carrollton, Coppell, Dallas, DeSoto, Duncanville, Farmers Branch, Garland, Grand Prairie, Highland Park, Hutchins, Irving, Justice of the Peace (all of Dallas County), Lancaster, Mesquite, Plano, Richardson, Rowlett, Seagoville, Sunnyvale, University Park, Wilmer, and the surrounding communities.

Q: Are you permitted to take criminal cases outside of the Dallas County area?

A: We are. Our attorneys can handle criminal law matters in Dallas, Denton, Collin, Kaufman, Rockwall, Ellis, and Tarrant Counties.

Q: Do you have any payment plans available?

A: Yes. Our firm offers a variety of flexible payment plans for our clients to choose from. It has come to our attention that most people who run into trouble with the law are never prepared for the financial obligations that come along with it, including the entire amount attached to a final legal bill. In spite of that, we still believe that anyone accused of a crime should have access to top-notch legal representation. It is for that reason that we go above and beyond to maintain flexibility with our clients regarding the manner they go about paying for our legal services. Our plans have proven to be an effective solution for many. When your rights are on the line, professional guidance is just a phone call away.

Q: Are felony and misdemeanor cases also handled by your firm?

A: They are. We serve individuals dealing with all types of criminal charges.

Q: Would it be possible for you to assist me with a jail release?

A: Yes. Different circumstances call for different jail release procedures.
